On behalf of the club, I volunteered to make up an extension speaker box which would allow members of the public to hear what was being worked and allow up to 4 people per station to use headphones with independent volume controls. The first time the speakers made an appearance was at ROTA. Following reports from Operators I have now added an additional volume control on the front panel to adjust the speaker output.
Being a “passive” splitter you will need to connect the speaker to the rig, using the supplied phono/rca to 3.5mm jack connector.
The RCA goes into input “A” of the speaker. Make sure that the AF gain on the rig is set sufficiently high to drive the speaker and
attached headphones. Then adjust the front speaker control to a level required, and adjust the rear volume controls to each headphone as required. If you are using the club supplied headphones push the 3.5mm 4 pole jack into the 3.5mm to ¼ inch adaptor. However do not insert the adaptor fully into the jack socket, but pull it back by one notch. You will still get the sound through both ear cups. Input B bypasses all the headphone sockets. If the signal is very weak or just white noise, it maybe better to switch the speaker off, using the toggle switch. The speakers will next be used at JOTA.
